About 80% of population in The Netherlands drinks alcohol from time to time. Compared to other countries in the EU, the Dutch drink less than the average. This is equivalent to 8 liters of 'pure' alcohol per year per citizen over the age of 15.

Until now, alcohol consumption has not decreased and the amount of alcohol consumption per person has remained relatively stable. The percentage of excessive alcohol drinking is decreasing.

There is a lot to do regarding alcohol consumption. Not only in the Netherlands, but also in Europe and the rest of the world. Governments are very careful about how they cope with alcohol regulations. This is not surprising, after all, 80% of the citizens drink alcohol in the Netherlands. Banning it can result in unwanted consequences. Still, from a government perspective, it makes sense to do something about this when you look at the costs and benefits. When alcohol is completely banned, it could be economically beneficial.

“Bob 0%” is one of the government’s first initiatives to reduce alcohol consumption. This resulted in direct reductions in traffic casualties. Another example is the prohibition on selling alcohol to young people, the minimum age was raised to 18 a few years ago. Also, big special discounts on selling alcohol were recently forbidden and the government is trying to discourage alcohol consumption with excise taxes. 

Despite the many benefits, the government is not pushing hard; a total prohibition on alcohol is not on option at the moment. Liberal governments say that an individual should have the freedom to make these choices for himself. In countries such as Sweden and Norway, alcohol consumption is strongly destimulated in all kinds of ways. Yet the Norwegians and Swedes consume 7.1 liters of pure alcohol per person per year. This is not surprising because alcohol is too deeply ingrained in our culture and way of life. After all, people have a lot of fun with it.

Society is also developing more and more awareness of the harmful effects of alcohol. There are more 0.0 drinks on the market and people are trying to moderate their drinking at certain levels. Nevertheless, total alcohol consumption is barely decreasing.

Everyone is aware of the negative effects of alcohol, everyone wants to stay healthy, yet not everyone wants to stop drinking alcohol. In fact, there is hardly any decrease.

The substance alcohol itself is not very harmful, but people do get drunk from it. It makes people more emotional, causes mood and behavioural changes, but also slows down the senses.  This can result in people harming themselves or others. This is one of the reasons alcohol is banned for drinking and driving.

The biggest health problems are caused by alcohol’s breakdown product: acetaldehyde. This is a very harmful and radical substance. Too much acetaldehyde can damage brain cells, cause headaches and directly affect the stomach and intestines. Our bodies can handle just a small amount of acetaldehyde and will break it down to create acetic acid that provides energy to the body. A problem occurs when the body is provided with an abundance of acetaldehyde. This happens quickly when drinking alcohol. This is because alcohol is not a natural nutrient for humans and so the body is not eguipped for handling these amounts. The liver breaks down acetaldehyde slowly, but the body produces only a very small amount of glutathione, an antioxidant enzyme that helps convert acetaldehyde into acetic acid. Unfortunately, there is only a small amount of glutathione in the system.

The body has to recycle this enzyme (which takes a relatively long time), which is why there is a good chance that after drinking alcohol, a lot of acetaldehyde is left in the body when you wake up the next morning. This is the main reason why a person might feel sick the day after.

There is awareness of the harmful effects of alcohol, yet alcohol continues to be drunk. Reset has developed a product that counteracts the negative effects of alcohol.  Reset does not encourage (excessive) alcohol consumption! Our remedy evolved from the age-old story that eating a raw egg after drinking alcohol helps you wake up fresh and sharp. We discovered that the active ingredient of a raw egg - cysteine - actually helps with these results. Providing the body with sufficient amounts to achieve this result is complicated. Our pharmacist has done extensive literature studies on the effects of alcohol and what would help against it. We also used these findings and our own insights to conduct our scientific research.

One of these was a large placebo-controlled field study that showed that more than 80% of the people experienced a greatly reduced to no hangover feeling after drinking alcohol and consuming Reset AfterDrink compared to the control group. This was a significant proven effect. This study was designed with extreme care in collaboration with a professor at Radboud University in Nijmegen. Our research led us to a unique and strong two-component product;

One of our key ingredients is glutathione. Glutathione the body’s strongest antioxidant. As mentioned, the body first transforms alcohol into acetaldehyde before it is turned into acetic acid for energy. Acetaldehyde is a toxic substance and needs to be eliminated from your body as soon as possible. To do this, the body uses this glutathione, a peptide that the body produces itself and is only available in small amounts as a reserve when it is not needed. When drinking alcohol, this reserve is quickly runs out. For this reason, Reset has added glutathione to our product to give the body more of the necessary ingredients to quickly process acetaldehyde.

To stimulate the body’s production of glutathione, we also add large amounts of cysteine. As mentioned earlier, glutathione can be recycled by the body, but not very quickly. To help the body get rid of acetaldehyde faster, the body needs to produce more of the required glutathione. Therefore, three amino acids are needed, and cysteine is one of them. This amino acid, a nutrient, is not extensively available in the body and can only be obtained through consumption. Chicken eggs, for example, contain this nutrient, but not in the quantities needed to speed up the process. Therefore, Reset has added cysteine to this food supplement to help your body make much more glutathione. By adding cysteine, the acetaldehyde can be processed by the liver up to five times faster. On top of that, Reset adds all kinds of vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants to support the process as much as possible.

Reset has one of the few products that actually contains ingredients that can help combat the root cause of alcohol’s ill effects. Glutathione and Cysteine form the basis of this. Most other alcohol recovery products focus on the lack of water in the body. People may feel lousy after drinking alcohol because they do not have enough water in the body. Alcohol does indeed have a dehydrating effect, however, this only occurs when drinking alcoholic beverages in excess of 12%. Anyone can easily solve this by drinking a glass of water every now and then while drinking alcohol. This is why we always recommend drinking 2 glasses of water after drinking Reset AfterDrink as well. Besides dehydration of the body due to alcohol consumption is easy to solve, it also has only a small share in the hangover feeling a person may have the next day. The biggest problem remains the build-up of acetaldehyde, the substance Reset focuses on to break down more quickly.

There are a few products that use Acetylcysteine, the dissolvable form of Cysteine. First, this is a medicine and may only be issued in very small quantities without a prescription. This would mean that after drinking a standard glass of alcohol, a person would have to use this product every time.
